Cricket played lovely
A friend asked why I love the CPL. Truth be told, the cricket itself is not the primary attraction, although the matches have been exciting and fiercely competitive.
How many times have I found lumps in my throat?
The sight of Sir Viv Richards at the stadium named after him in Antigua, jumping, clapping and waving his arms as his team, the Falcons, pulled off a fabulous victory the other night, was one moment. (Sir Curtly Ambrose is a formidable presence too as he sits there glowering until some feat makes him leap to his feet.)
Hasely deserves the best
Hasely Crawford is a national hero, and should be treated as such.
In what is still Trinidad and Tobago’s single biggest moment in history, Crawford crossed the line first in the blue riband event at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. With that 10.06 seconds dash in the men’s 100 metres final, the 25-year-old powerhouse became the country’s first-ever Olympic gold medallist.
Betting on strategic regionalism
The news from the Government last week—that bpTT, alongside XRG and UCC Oil and Gas, has been granted licences to develop Loran Phase 2 and the wider Plataforma Deltana area—may sound like another story about pipelines and cubic feet of gas. It is really a story about diplomacy, timing, and how small countries can turn geography into opportunity.
Rain knows the old stories
With the rains, the spirits awaken
Of old kings, songs and tales passed on and some forgotten
The breeze gives it life and tells the story of our history
Of the Arawaks who first inhabited this island
Act now to limit El Niño risks
A slow-onset disaster is approaching Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean. Warnings this week from the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), The UWI Climate Studies Group Mona (CSGM) and the T&T Meteorological Service (TTMS) tell us so.
According to every scientific forecast, the very strong El Niño event building across the Pacific—forecast to peak between October and December 2026 and persist through March 2027—will stress local and regional disaster risk management, our food security, and public utilities.
