India vs Pakistan: Deepti Sharma opens up on Team India’s squad ahead of Women’s Asia Cup 2026 clash

India all-rounder Deepti Sharma believes her team has a well-balanced squad as India prepare to face Pakistan in a major Women’s Asia Cup 2026 match. She also praised the young players who have made an impact for the team, according to the ICC website.

India and Pakistan will meet at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Speaking before the game, Deepti said India have looked strong in both batting and bowling during the tournament.

“The whole team is performing well. If you look at the bowling unit or the batting unit, based on today’s game, I think both aspects are balanced,” Deepti said, as quoted by the ICC website.

How have both teams performed in the tournament so far?

India have made an excellent start to their Asia Cup campaign. The 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup champions are unbeaten after two games. They defeated Thailand by 94 runs and Hong Kong, China by 137 runs to sit at the top of Group A. The victory against Hong Kong also saw Smriti Mandhana break several women’s cricket records.

Pakistan, meanwhile, have played only one match so far. They beat Thailand by 35 runs. Muneeba Ali scored 54 from 52 balls, while Sadia Iqbal took three wickets for 11 runs and Tuba Hassan picked up two wickets for 17 runs.

How is India approaching Pakistan’s bowling threat and historical record?

Deepti said Pakistan have a strong bowling attack and singled out spinners Nashra Sundhu and Sadia Iqbal. The two bowlers are currently ranked seventh and ninth in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings.

“Both teams have good bowlers. We know Pakistan have quality players, but our main aim is to concentrate on what we can do well. We want to play positive cricket and stay focused on our own strengths,” Deepti said.

India have a strong record against Pakistan in Women’s T20I cricket, having won 14 of their 17 meetings. However, Deepti said past results will not matter once the match begins.

She said the key will be for India to play good cricket as a team and follow their plans throughout the contest.

What makes top-ranked spinner Sree Charani such a key player?

Deepti also spoke highly of young spinner Sree Charani, who currently sits at the top of the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings.

“Charani is a very good talent. She is number one in the rankings. She has performed very well in the last year. And the way she turns the ball, unbelievable. It’s not easy to play for a batter,” Deepti said.

Charani made her India debut against England in April 2025 and has continued to develop since then. She has taken 73 wickets in 48 matches and has become an important part of India’s bowling attack. She also impressed during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year.

How is Deepti Sharma mentoring emerging talent Prema Rawat?

Deepti also praised Prema Rawat for making good use of the chances she has received. The 24-year-old has not played many matches for India but has shown that she can contribute whenever she gets an opportunity.

Deepti said she has been helping Rawat by sharing her experience during matches and training sessions.

“She has not played many matches, but whenever she gets an opportunity to bowl, she is ready to make a difference. She is always prepared to take wickets for the team. I help her whenever I can, both on the field and in the nets, and share whatever experience I have,” Deepti said.

Rawat made her India debut against South Africa at the Women’s T20 World Cup after impressing in the Women’s Premier League. She was part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title-winning 2026 team and has taken two wickets in three matches for India so far.
