3 Major cricket records that could be broken in 2026

As with every year, international cricket has had a jam-packed schedule for 2026. While the year has witnessed both men’s and women’s T20 World Cups, there’s a lot more action remaining in the last four months.

Amid some relentless cricketing action, several long-standing international records will be in danger before the year comes to an end. Here are the top three records that could be broken in 2026:

1. Most 50s in men’s Test cricket

Joe Root has a great chance to become the leading half-centurion in Test cricket. He can surpass legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar for the most half-centuries in the longest format. Root is currently level with Tendulkar on 68 Test fifties and needs just one more half-century to claim the record. He has a great opportunity to break the record in the ongoing year with England set to play four more matches.

2. Youngest batter to score a T20I century

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made giant strides in his professional career in 2026. He has already become India’s youngest-ever debutant and the youngest-ever half-centurion in international cricket. He could further create history if he scores a T20I century before turning 15 years and 100 days old.

With multiple T20Is on India’s schedule in 2026, Sooryavanshi could have several opportunities to make the record his own.

If he reaches three figures on or before November 4, 2026, he would become the youngest batter to score a T20I century across men’s and women’s cricket.

3. First bowler to 200 T20I wickets

Afghanistan wrist-spinner Rashid Khan is also closing in on another major feat in T20I history. He needs just seven more wickets to become the first bowler to reach 200 wickets in men’s T20 internationals. Rashid currently has 193 wickets from 115 innings at an average of 13.73, with best figures of 5/3.

With Afghanistan scheduled to play several T20Is in the last four months, Rashid has a strong chance of reaching the landmark before the end of 2026.
