Abdeslam Ouaddou has been duly rewarded for starting Orlando Pirates’ Betway Premiership title defence on a high after being crowned the Betway Premiership Coach of the Month for August.
Ouaddou guided Pirates to three wins and one draw in the league last month, finishing top of the log with 10 points – level with second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who trailed on goal difference.
The Sea Robbers had an impressive start to the campaign all around. They conceded just once – in a 1-1 draw with AmaZulu – kept four clean sheets, and scored a whopping 12 goals. They all reached the MTN8 final, where they’ll face Sundowns on October 10.

To make matters worse, Pirates have faced a growing injury list, with key regulars Sihle Nduli, Thalente Mbatha, Evidence Makgopa, and Nkosinathi Sibisi all sidelined.
Meanwhile, AmaZulu attacker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya was in blistering form for Usuthu last month, scoring five goals in four league games to earn the league’s Player of the Month award.

The attacker’s form ensured a decent start to the season for his team – winning three games, drawing one, and losing one – positioning Usuthu well to build on their fourth-place finish from last season. Coach Arthur Zwane says he hopes Ngwenya won’t be worn out as the season progresses.
Usuthu’s lone defeat came against Sundowns, where Brazilians striker Brayan León scored a half-volley that was voted Goal of the Month.
