Born in Punjab’s Fazilka district on September 8, 1999, Gill has consistently excelled across formats, emerging as a key component of India’s batting lineup while embracing leadership responsibilities.

Gill first gained prominence as the Player of the Tournament during India’s victorious 2018 Under-19 World Cup campaign. He made his ODI debut in 2019 and solidified his international reputation during his inaugural Test series in Australia in 2020-21, scoring 45 and 35 on debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, followed by a half-century in Sydney and a fluent 91 in India’s series-winning match at the Gabba.

Gill assumed the captaincy of the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League in 2024 following Hardik Pandya’s departure. Under his leadership, the team reached the playoffs the next season. Gill recently led India to a 1-0 victory in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in August 2026.
Overall, Gill has established an outstanding record across formats. In 43 Tests, he has scored 3,043 runs at an average of 43.47, including 11 centuries and nine half-centuries. His ODI record is even more impressive, with 3,379 runs in 67 matches at an average of 60.33, featuring nine centuries and 20 half-centuries, with a highest score of 208. In T20 Internationals, he has accumulated 869 runs in 36 matches at a strike rate of 138.59, including a century.
