Pollard will not play in the 2027 edition of the SA20 after pulling out of his deal with Joburg Super Kings, reports ESPNcricinfo.
Joburg Super Kings signed him at the auction earlier this month and paid R1.5 million for him.
They have confirmed Pollard has told them of his decision, and can now sign a replacement. Mumbai Indians appointed him as their head coach for IPL 2027 on Saturday.
The same owners run MI Cape Town in the SA20, and by staying out he will not have to line up against an MI side.
Pollard played for MI Cape Town in 2024 and 2025-26, scoring 207 runs in 12 games at a strike rate of 171.07. MI Cape Town did not bid for him at this month’s auction.
His ties to the group go further. He coaches MI London in the men’s Hundred and has also played for MI New York and MI Emirates. T“At 39, Pollard needs just one run to become only the second batter after Jos Buttler to reach 15,000 T20 runs.
The SA20 starts on 17 January, and Pollard will first sit at the IPL auction table as Mumbai Indians head coach.
