The Telangana state government is planning to build India’s largest cricket stadium in Hyderabad which will be a part of their innovative and futuristic Bharat Future City. This will be set up in a collaboration of the Telangana government and the BCCI.
The Telangana state government has finalized their plans of constructing India’s biggest cricket stadium in Hyderabad’s upcoming Bharat Future City near Mucherla in Rangareddy district. The stadium is expected to have a seating capacity beyond 1.32 lakh which would potentially lead to surpassing the capacity of Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium to become the world’s largest cricket stadium by capacity in India.
The state government is working on the plans for a massive international cricket venue, with the foundation stone likely to be laid in December, 2026 in the Future City. The State government is exploring a suitable 100-acre site for this highly anticipated ambitious project. The stadium has been planned as a multipurpose sporting arena by drawing inspiration from iconic global venues like Lord’s in England and leading Australian grounds. It will be managed under a joint development model between the BCCI and the Telangana government.

The initiative follows directions from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who has emphasised for the development of world-class sports infrastructure in the Future City. Officials are currently examining suitable locations in Bharat Future City for the proposed stadium. The BCCI is expected to bear the cost of construction and maintenance, while the State government will provide the required land. Officials are working on a framework for the project to be developed and managed jointly by the State government and the BCCI. If this stadium attains reality then it will be the largest cricket stadium in the world by overtaking the current topper Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Why the Stadium and the Future City?
Telangana Government is planning to develop Bharat Future City across around 30,000 acres and the project will focus on various domains such as artificial intelligence, life sciences, tourism and sports. The stadium will serve as the anchor for a comprehensive Sports City designed to feature facilities for cricket, football and golf. The chosen location also offers connectivity via the Outer Ring Road (ORR), the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR), a dedicated Metro Rail extension and direct proximity to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad.
The stadium is also expected to become an integral part of the Sports City planned in Future City which may potentially support Telangana’s plans to promote sports, tourism and the larger Net-Zero City vision. If the project moves forward as planned, the new stadium might give Hyderabad a major boost on the international cricket map and strengthen the city’s position as a global sports destination.
