Steve Barker has responded to Simba SC’s victory — inspired by Anicet Oura — over Mighty Wanderers in a continental encounter over the weekend.

Simba Secure Valuable Away Victory in CAFCL

The former Stellenbosch FC winger Anicet Oura netted the only goal of the game as the Reds of Msimbazi secured a valuable 1-0 away victory over Malawian outfit Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

The victory gives the Tanzanian giants a significant advantage heading into the return leg, which is scheduled to be played on Friday. The winner of the tie will book their place in the second qualifying round.

Steve Barker on Simba’s Away Win

Reacting after the match, Barker stressed the importance of not taking anything for granted despite the first-leg advantage.

“I think one mustn’t take anything for granted,” the South African coach said, per the club’s social media channels.

“An away win on the continent is massive, so whether you win by one goal, it’s not easy to come away playing a good team.

“They deserve to be in the Champions League.

“A difficult pitch obviously, intimidating, a big crowd behind them, so it’s not about difficulty and scoring more goals.

“It’s important that we got the away goal and that we got the win.”

The Dar es Salaam-based outfit will be hoping to take their form in the Tanzanian Premier League into the continental competition, with the side having picked up five victories in their opening five league encounters.

That places them second on the table, only separated from fierce rivals Young Africans SC by goal difference.
