The Pakistan Super League (IPL) could move to an earlier window in order to ensure they do not clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the 2027 season. The Pakistan-based league was held in April-May in both the 2025 and 2026 seasons, which led to it taking place at the same time as the world’s richest cricket league.
For those unversed, the competition was held in February-March traditionally since its inception in 2016, which meant it finished just before the IPL started. However, due to the Champions Trophy being held in that window in 2025, the tournament took place during the March-April window. The tradition was continued in 2026 too.
However, a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI) has claimed that the tournament’s media rights holder, Walee Technologie, has put up a proposal to hold the tournament in the January-February window this year. The published information claims that they have complained about a lack of advertisement opportunities if the tournament is clashing with the IPL.

While the clash with the IPL window meant that the top players were not available to play the PSL, it allowed the league a clear pathway to sign up the cricketers that went unsold in the Indian-based league’s auction. However, a move to the January-February window will mean PSL has to compete with the Big Bash League, SA20, and ILT20 for players. Moreover, those players that are busy with international cricket at the time will also not be available.
