The ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 has found a new home, and India will host its first edition. The ICC confirmed on September 2 that the six-team competition will be played in Mumbai and Vadodara from February 14 to 28, 2027, adding another major women’s cricket event to India’s already busy calendar.
The tournament was initially scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka.
The tournament was originally meant to be held in Sri Lanka.
That plan changed after concerns surrounding the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket. The ICC had outlined governance reforms at its Annual Conference in July, and with those changes still being worked on, the global body decided to move the event.
India was not the only alternative considered. Bangladesh and South Africa were also assessed before the ICC Board approved India as the replacement host.
For Indian cricket, it is another opportunity to put the women’s game in front of home crowds.
Mumbai and Vadodara Get the Big Stage
The Cricket Club of India in Mumbaiand theVadodara International Cricket Stadium will host all the matches.
The choice of venues gives the tournament two very different cricketing settings. Mumbai brings its long association with Indian cricket, while Vadodara has developed into an important center for women’s cricket.
The full fixture list and ticketing information will be announced later by the ICC.
Six Teams, One New Trophy
The inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy will feature India, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
The six sides qualified according to their positions in the ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings on the July 6 cut-off date. Each team will face the other in a round-robin league, with the top two advancing to the final on February 28.
Pakistan, meanwhile, will not feature in the tournament.
For India, hosting the competition comes only months after the country staged the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup. It underlines how quickly women’s cricket has grown in the country and how much interest major tournaments now attract.
A New Chapter for Women’s Cricket
The significance of the event goes beyond where the matches are being played.
The ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 is the first edition of a tournament that is expected to become a regular part of the international women’s calendar. For the players, it offers another high-profile trophy to chase. For fans, it brings another chance to watch the world’s leading teams competing in India.
And for Indian cricket, something is fitting about hosting the tournament’s beginning.
The first Champions Trophy will not simply have a new name engraved on its trophy. It will also have a new chapter in women’s cricket history written across Mumbai and Vadodara.
