Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford of the West Indies have been officially reprimanded for breaches of Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Men’s T20I against India in Ranchi on October 9, according to the ICC website.
Powell breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, concerning “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.” Rutherford breached Article 2.8, relating to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.” Both players received one demerit point on their disciplinary records, marking their first offences within a 24-month period.

The incidents occurred during the West Indies innings. In the sixth over, after being dismissed bowled by Mayank Yadav, Powell hit the ball away with his bat, constituting the breach. Rutherford’s offence happened in the 13th over, when he shouted aggressively at the umpire following a decision that a delivery he believed was wide was legitimate.
Both players admitted their offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Prakash Bhatt of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for formal hearings. The charges were brought by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Rohan Pandit, third umpire Nitin Menon, and fourth umpire Virender Sharma.
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum sanction of 50 per cent of the player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
