Former great Michael Hussey is set to sign a part-time coaching deal with Cricket Australia, slamming the door on a move to England, according to reports.
It emerged in August that the Australian great had been approached by new England coach Stephen Fleming about his interest in becoming the team’s new batting coach ahead of the 2027 Ashes.
Hussey, who has worked at a number of T20 franchises around the world as well as as a commentator for Fox Cricket‘s Test and BBL coverage, told Fox Sports last month the offer was “exciting”.

The Guardian has reported that Hussey has chosen a consultancy role with CA, boosting the organisation’s backroom staff ahead of the 2027 Ashes in England.

The report claims the 51-year old’s choice is due to the extra flexibility of the role in comparison to England and Fleming’s batting coach offer.
The position will allow him to continue his commentary duties with Fox Cricket, while enabling him to continue to coach Welsh Fire in England’s Hundred competition and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, where he is the batting coach.
Hussey would have been a major boost for England ahead of a brutal calendar which includes next year’s Ashes as well as a winter tour of South Africa.

According to reports, former England great and 2005 Ashes hero Marcus Trescothick, who has served as caretaker coach during the team’s ongoing Test series against Pakistan, is firming to be Fleming’s permanent batting coach.
After making his Test debut as a 30-year old in late 2005, Hussey went on to forge a stellar career across 79 Tests, 185 ODIs and 38 T20Is for Australia.
