Aiman Anwer Retires From International Cricket

Anwer has announced her retirement from international cricket after the PCB confirmed her decision today. This brought an end to her eight-years of international career. She is gearing up for her new venture as a match referee.

Pakistani fast bowler Aiman Anwer (also spelled Aimen Anwar) has officially announced her retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed her decision today, bringing a curtain down on her eight-year journey representing the national side.

Anwer was born on the 14th of September, 1991 in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. She was a right-arm medium-fast bowler. She made her Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against England on 5 July 2016, becoming the 37th player to represent Pakistan in that format and went on to play in 37 T20Is. She also featured in eight ODIs for Pakistan. Anwer was a key part of the national pace attack during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cups in 2018, 2020, and 2023. She also played in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2022, which was hosted in New Zealand.

The 34-year-old has 29 T20I wickets to her name along with four in the ODI format. Pakistan’s league stage fixture against England was the pacer’s final ODI outing for the team. Her final match in national colors was against the West Indies in South Africa during the group stage of the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Notably, she was a beneficiary of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s first-ever parental policy, allowing her to balance international cricket responsibilities while being a mother.

Aiman Anwer has enjoyed a prolific domestic cricket career in Pakistan. She played for Karachi Under-19s and Karachi Senior Women in her early breakthrough with Karachi’s youth setup in 2009/10, represented her home province Sindh Women, played for Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) between 2016-2017, featured for Saif Sports Saga during the 2014-2016 seasons, played for PCB Challengers and PCB Blasters in the PCB Women’s T20 tournaments.

Future Plans

Following her retirement notice released by the PCB, she has already begun her shift towards a career as a cricket referee as she started her training at the National Women’s Under-19 Tournament.
