The BPL has been put on hold this year as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) plans to revamp the tournament. At the same time, the board is looking for suitable franchise owners following dissatisfaction with some of the existing franchise arrangements. If things work out, Lahore Qalandars could become part of the BPL in the future.

After making a name for
themselves in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lahore Qalandars could now be
looking for an opportunity to join the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Speaking to the media on the day
of the Bangladesh-Zimbabwe ODI, Lahore Qalandars owner Sameen Rana expressed
his interest in becoming involved in Bangladeshi cricket. “Bangladesh is
very close to my heart. I will look for opportunities to become part of
Bangladesh cricket. Everything depends on what kind of opportunity comes our
way,” Rana said.
When asked specifically about the
possibility of owning a team in the BPL, Rana made it clear that he would
welcome the opportunity. “If we get the chance, we would definitely love
to be part of the BPL. It is a fantastic tournament, although it has been
struggling a little recently for various reasons. There is so much passion for
cricket in both Bangladesh and Pakistan. The BPL should not be struggling like
this. I have also spoken to Tamim bhai and shared some of my experiences with
him,” he said.
Rana has considerable experience
in franchise cricket. He said he has been involved with the PSL for 11 years
and has also worked with South Africa‘s Global League, T10 cricket and Cricket
Canada. “I have been part of the PSL for 11 years. I was also involved in
the Global League in South Africa, T10 cricket and Cricket Canada. I shared my
experience and knowledge with him. If we get an opportunity to be involved in
the BPL, I would love to take it,” Rana added.
However, there is no final
decision on Lahore Qalandars’ potential involvement in the BPL yet. Rana said
the franchise is still exploring the available options. “There has been no
final decision about joining the BPL, but we are looking into whether there is
an opportunity. If we get the chance to be part of the BPL, I will be the first
to go. It is my dream to become part of Bangladesh cricket. We don’t
necessarily have to own a team. Even an exchange programme would be
great,” he said.
