Will India accept Women's Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi after last year's snub?

The India Women’s Asia Cup team could go through an embarrassing situation in case they make it to the finals and win the competition.

Reports indicate that ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is anticipated to take part in the closing ceremony and hand over the trophy to the winners after the final in Dubai.

A question that has come up is whether the Indian Women’s Asia Cup team will accept the trophy from Naqvi in case they end up winning the title.

This is because the same happened in the men’s Asia Cup last year when India declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi after beating Pakistan in the final.

Will Mohsin Naqvi present the Women’s Asia Cup trophy?

As per a Geo Super report, Naqvi is going to be present for the closing ceremony of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup in Dubai.

Since Naqvi is going to be there, then any sort of confrontation between the two nations regarding the trophy cannot be ruled out, provided India wins the match.

The Women’s Asia Cup final will be held on September 13 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

What happened between India and Mohsin Naqvi last year?

The dispute has its roots going all the way back to the final of men’s Asia Cup 2025.

India beat Pakistan to become the winners of the event, but the winning team declined to receive the trophy from Naqvi, the President of ACC and Chairman of PCB.

In addition, the trophy was removed from the ceremony, thus making for an odd occasion whereby the winner celebrated his triumph without having the silverware.

India’s reaction became the subject of discussion, after which the BCCI Secretary, Devajit Saikia commented on their stance and pointed out certain shortcomings of the trophy presentation.

Could India refuse the trophy again?

The Indian women’s team finds itself in a scenario that has already unfolded in the case of men’s cricket teams before. Nonetheless, neither the BCCI nor the women’s team have shown any signs that they do not want to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi. The idea of a boycott is purely speculative at this stage.

Furthermore, the participation of Naqvi in the handing over ceremony would be quite understandable taking into account his status as ACC president and the representative of the continental body.

Therefore, it would be too early to say that the women’s team would follow the same example as the men’s team did in 2025. There has been no sign of such confrontations among the players or the management.

Having already booked their spot in the knockouts, India consolidated its reputation as a favourite to successfully defend their Women’s Asia Cup crown by winning thrashing Pakistan by seven wickets in their final group stage encounter.

Interestingly, on the other hand, Pakistan continues to be among the teams in the race for a semifinal spot as they have a match left against Hong Kong on September 7, and a win could increase their chances of advancing to the knockout stages.
