An insider from the BCCI has suddenly made a huge claim regarding the dismissal of Ajit Agarkar from the post of chief selector as the BCCI are in search of a new selector. Although, Devajit Saikia has turned down all the rumors regarding Agarkar’s future.
An insider claim from the BCCI has suddenly created a buzz on the social media regarding the future of former Indian bowler Ajit Agarkar as the chief selector of the Indian national team, post BCCI’s big review meeting. The twitter claim says that the BCCI are in search of a new chief selector. Speculations have risen up following Agarkar’s missing out from the all important review meeting. Although the BCCI Secretary smashed all the rumors regarding Agarkar’s replacement.
According to News24’s Vaibhav Bhola X post, there has been a lot of speculation regarding Ajit Agarkar and his tenure as the BCCI chief selector. The rumors have blown up again as Agarkar missed the review meeting today in Mumbai, due to his unavailability in the town and also could not even join the meeting through online medium. If the claims are to be believed, then he missed the meeting because of his personal commitments. The BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed all the rumors and cited the reason for Agarakar’s absence in the meeting. “He was out of station. He could not be part of the meeting. This meeting was called at very short notice. He was not in town. He was in such an area where he could not join online despite his best efforts. There was no such discussion in today’s meeting” Saikia said in an interaction with the media. Saikia also eliminated the rumors regarding Laxman being appointed as the BCCI’s director of cricket. “I do not comment on new rumours. We did not have any such kind of discussion, nor do we have any such intention” he said.

Agarkar’s tenure has been decorated with calls that demanded conviction and the ability to withstand criticism. He strongly backed Suryakumar Yadav as the long-term T20I captain over Hardik Pandya was one of them. A far more controversial, critical and sensitive move was the decision to replace the extremely successful and fans favourite, Rohit Sharma, as the ODI captain. On both occasions, Agarkar did not at all try to hide behind silence. He stood up and took all the obvious criticisms that came with such high-profile strong calls as he decided not to be a people-pleaser.
Agarkar’s international career
Ajit Agarkar marked his international career from 1998 to 2007, when he played as a medium-fast bowler and as an useful lower-order batsman. He has played 26 Test matches, where he took 58 wickets and scored 571 runs which included a century. He has also featured in 191 ODI matches, taking 288 wickets and scoring 1269 runs. He is the third-highest ODI wicket-taker for India.
He reached 50 ODI wickets in just 23 matches, setting a world record at the time. He scored an unbeaten Test century against England at Lord’s. He took career-best Test figures of 6/41 in the second innings to help India win against Australia after 20 years. He smashed a 21-ball half-century against Zimbabwe in Rajkot in 2000.

Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, VVS Laxman and Gautam Gambhir were also a part of the BCCI’s review meeting. Laxman has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian Men’s team for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. The meeting was primarily called to assess India’s underwhelming overseas performance in England and Ireland, set up the team’s future roadmap keeping in mind the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup and the severe injury issues regarding Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and other players.
