How many games will Shubman Gill play in Sher-e-Punjab T20 League?

Shubman Gill scored 40 runs on his return to T20 action with the Sher-e-Punjab T20.

Shubman Gill’s participation in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League has added considerable star power to Punjab’s domestic competition. The Indian Test and ODI captain has joined the Fazilka Falcons, and his presence has attracted immense attention towards the league.

This will also be a massive opportunity for young players from Punjab to share the dressing room with the Indian captain and get motivated enough to become an established international cricketer someday. The 2026 edition is already featuring several renowned players like Abhishek Sharma, Arshdeep Singh and Prabhsimran Singh.

However, Gill’s commitments with the Indian team mean that his availability needs to be managed carefully. As India’s Test and ODI captain, he has a very demanding schedule ahead, and his participation in such leagues could further be stressful for managing his workload.

The key question for his side, the Fazilka Falcons, is how many matches he will actually play. Gill is expected to play at least two matches for the Fazilka Falcons in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 league. His involvement, however, will largely depend on India’s international commitments.

This gives a clear idea that Shubman Gill may not be available for all of Fazilka Falcons’ matches. Out of the 24 league-stage matches, each franchise is destined to play eight matches before the knockout stage. Before Gill’s arrival, the Falcons had already played three matches into the competition.

Gill played his first match of the season for the Falcons against the Ludhiana Lions. The Falcons won the match by just 1 run, and Shubman Gill contributed 40 runs off 21 balls. This is an opportunity for the Indian skipper to return to T20 action. He last played a T20 game during the IPL final against RCB in 2026.

For the Falcons, Gill’s role extends beyond simply scoring runs. However, in the first match he played, he was used as an impact sub, which clearly shows Gill looking to minimise his workload. Though Gill’s participation will depend on his international schedule and the decisions of the Indian team management, the Indian skipper has no commitments until preparation for the West Indies ODI series begins.
