Born in Cape Town on 26 April 1999, Wolvaardt is a right-handed opening batter best known for her elegant cover drive, composure and ability to construct long innings.
She made her ODI debut against England in Benoni in February 2016, aged just 16. Six months later, Wolvaardt struck 105 against Ireland to become the youngest South African, male or female, to score an international century.

Her early success established her in the Proteas lineup, but she has since expanded her game considerably. Initially regarded as a technically gifted ODI batter, Wolvaardt developed the scoring options and power required to become a major threat in T20 cricket.

That progress has made her one of the few women to score centuries in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. Her performances have also earned her opportunities in major domestic competitions, including the Women’s Big Bash League, Women’s Premier League and The Hundred.
Wolvaardt was handed the South African captaincy in 2023 and has become the central figure in one of the strongest periods in the team’s history.
She led the Proteas to the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup final before producing a record-breaking campaign at the 2025 ODI World Cup. Wolvaardt scored 571 runs, the most by any batter in a single edition of the tournament.

Her 169 against England powered South Africa into their first ODI World Cup final. She followed that innings with 101 against India in the decider, although the Proteas were unable to secure the trophy.
The tournament elevated Wolvaardt to the top of the ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings.
Her shorter-format game reached another level in April 2026 when she scored 330 runs during South Africa’s 4-1 T20I series victory over India. That included a blistering 115 from 53 deliveries as she registered her 17th international century.
Still only 27, Wolvaardt has already spent more than a decade in international cricket. Her combination of technical quality, consistency and leadership has made her the face of the Proteas Women and one of South African cricket’s most important players.
