Kaneez Tuskers’ women’s team will be looking to make a strong start to their new season when they host Mpumalanga Rhinos in two T20 matches at the Pietermaritzburg Oval this weekend.
The Girls in Blue will take to the field at 9am today and 10am tomorrow, with KZN Inland Cricket Union urging local cricket supporters to turn out and back the team.
The home side will draw confidence from their performances in the recently concluded Women’s Tuskers Premier League (TPL), where several players impressed with bat and ball.

The team will be guided by experienced head
The team will be guided by experienced head coach Adele van Eck, with South Africa U19 captain Mieke van Voorst expected to play a key role in their campaign.
KZN Inland Cricket Union chief executive Jason Sathiaseelan said the players had worked hard in preparation for the season, with the TPL providing valuable match practice and an opportunity to identify promising talent.
“The Tuskers ladies, under the guidance of head coach Adele van Eck, have been working hard in preparation for this season. The recently held Women’s TPL played an important role in identifying talent and giving the ladies some much-needed practice time,” he said.
Our ladies need our support, and we urge
Our ladies need our support, and we urge the entire Pietermaritzburg community to come to Pietermaritzburg Oval to see them in action.
Sathiaseelan identified Van Voorst as one of the players to watch, following her outstanding form in the TPL, where she scored two centuries in four matches. “The team will be built around her, but we have some exciting talent in the squad, and they are eager to do well and put themselves in contention for promotion at the end of the season,” he said.
Hannah Warner was the pick of the bowlers during the TPL, while Meghan Wessels also impressed with the bat, scoring 183 runs in the tournament.
With a blend of established performers and emerging talent, the Tuskers will be aiming to translate their recent form into positive results as they begin their season against the Rhinos.
