Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the first semi-final of the women’s T20 cricket tournament at the 20th Asian Games at Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin, Japan, yesterday, securing their place in the gold medal final.
The women’s cricket gold medal match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday (22). Sri Lanka and India also reached the women’s cricket final at the 2022 Asian Games, where India won the gold medal.
Sri Lanka’s captain Chamari Athapaththu produced a superb unbeaten half-century, scoring 83 runs to lead her team to victory. She faced 50 deliveries and struck six sixes and seven fours.
Pakistan posted 177 for four in their allotted
Pakistan posted 177 for four in their allotted 20 overs after winning the toss and batting first. Ayesha Zafar top-scored with 71 off 50 balls, hitting two sixes and nine fours, while Shawaal Zulfiqar contributed 54 off 50 deliveries, including two sixes and three fours.
Fatima Sana remained unbeaten on 20 for Pakistan.
In reply, Sri Lanka reached 178 for two in 17.5 overs to complete an eight-wicket victory. Alongside Athapaththu’s unbeaten 83, Hasini Perera scored 42, while Imesha Dulani contributed 27.
For Sri Lanka, Kawya Kavindi took 1 for 13, while Athapaththu claimed 1 for 30. Fatima Sana was Pakistan’s most successful bowler, taking 2 for 24.

Eight teams from across Asia participated in the tournament. Sri Lanka had earlier secured their place in the semi-finals with an 86-run victory over Malaysia in the quarter-finals.
