LAHORE – The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has introduced a Cricket Development Excellence Award carrying a prize of USD 200,000 to recognise the franchise that makes the strongest contribution to player development, grassroots cricket, infrastructure and the broader growth of the game. The award, introduced on Friday, will initially assess the development work of the six franchises that participated in the league from its third through 11th editions. The initiative is designed to recognise efforts extending beyond performances on the PSL field.

Under the assessment process, each franchise will first conduct a self-evaluation using a scoring framework developed by the PSL before submitting its assessment and supporting evidence to a five-member committee formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The committee, comprising independent experts and internal stakeholders, will verify the claims and scores against measurable and verifiable data. This assessment will account for 80 per cent of the final result. The remaining 20 per cent will come through a fan vote. Participating franchises will publish presentations outlining their cricket development initiatives on official PSL social media platforms, allowing fans to evaluate and rank their efforts.

The scoring framework gives 25 per cent to player pathways and development, 20 per cent to grassroots and domestic engagement, 15 per cent to high-performance infrastructure and innovation, 10 per cent to player impact and match contribution, and 10 per cent to player welfare and education, alongside the 20 per cent fan vote. The criteria include identifying and nurturing emerging talent, providing players with opportunities beyond the PSL, developing high-performance facilities and using technology to improve cricket systems. Franchises will also be assessed on coaching clinics, school and club cricket, men’s and women’s cricket initiatives, player education, financial literacy, media training, anti-doping and anti-corruption awareness, mental-health support and career-transition programmes. The PSL said further details about the assessment committee and voting schedule would be announced later. From the conclusion of PSL 11 onwards, only development work undertaken between the two most recent editions will be considered for subsequent awards.
