Nigeria Junior Female YellowGreens have qualified for the 2027 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup after defeating Zimbabwe by four runs in the final of the Africa Qualifier in Dar es Salaam, on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The victory at the Estim, TCA Cricket Arena secured Nigeria their second appearance at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, with the tournament to be hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal.
Nigeria won the toss and elected to bat, posting 98 for six from their 20 overs, with Christabel Chukwuonye top-scoring with 21. Beauty Oguai added 19, while Jessica Bieni scored 15 and Deborah Bassey remained unbeaten on 10.
Zimbabwe, set 99 for victory, made 94 before being bowled out with one ball remaining. Salem Princess Museka top-scored with 27, while Bethel Makanaka Zinyama made 21 and Nicolette Paloma Nyika contributed 18.
Peace Usen led Nigeria’s bowling attack with three wickets for 19 runs, while Jennifer Godwin and Anointed Akhigbe claimed two wickets each. Zimbabwe reached 85 for six in 17.4 overs but lost their final four wickets for nine runs as Nigeria closed out a tense four-run victory to complete an unbeaten campaign.
