A talented batsman and natural leader, Aaron took on the captaincy and helped guide Sussex from ECB development competitions into the D40 League in 2018. Sussex Cricket described him as an instrumental figure in the development of the county squad. Aaron’s health deteriorated soon after which led to a world first heart and lung transplant at The Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge in July 2019.
Unfortunately, Aaron was unable to return to competitive cricket and passed away in 2021 after a long illness. Thanks to extensive fundraising and grants from Sussex Cricket and the ECB, new facilities have now been installed, allowing Aaron’s Sussex Disability side play at his home club at the memorial fixture on Sunday, August 30. Aaron’s dad, Bob said: “Sunday was not only a tribute to all the people that played and also made it possible to play the beautiful game but a celebration of what disability cricket has become.
A community strengthened by players like him.”
