The inaugural International Cricket Council (ICC)-sanctioned European T20 Premier League (ETPL) has commenced with significant attention, drawing capacity crowds at venues including the opening match at Voorburg Cricket Club (VCC) and strong attendances throughout its fixtures, reflecting the rising popularity of cricket in Europe.
In the tournament’s first week, three internationally recognised bowlers—Trent Boult, Anrich Nortje and Mitchell Santner—each recorded the best T20 bowling figures of their careers, highlighting the league’s competitive standard.

New Zealand’s Trent Boult took 5 wickets for 24 runs against Glasgow Cosmic on August 27, surpassing his previous best of 4/13 achieved against Sri Lanka in 2022. South African Anrich Nortje produced an impressive 5/11 against Belfast Wolves on August 29, improving on his former best of 4/7 also against Sri Lanka in 2024. New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner then claimed 5/16 against Dublin Guardian on August 30, exceeding his prior best of 4/11 versus India in 2016.

You have got international players, local European talent and different styles coming together. For me, the personal numbers are great, but being part of building something new in European cricket is what makes this experience particularly enjoyable.”
Rotterdam Dockers pacer Anrich Nortje stated: “It was great to get a 5-for in T20. It is not something that comes by often, and when you get the opportunity, you have to take it. Conditions suited my bowling on the day and I was just focused on using it to the best of my ability, where needed by the team.”
