Starc claimed 6-12 in the first innings before adding 4-39 in the second as Australia completed an innings-and-51-run victory inside two days.

The emphatic result helped the hosts recover from their shock nine-wicket defeat in Darwin and draw the two-match series 1-1.

The 36-year-old was named Player of the Match and Player of the Series after taking 12 wickets at an average of 12.08 during the series.
His previous highest Test bowling ranking was second, a position he first reached following last year’s Boxing Day Test.

Starc also moved to 10th on the list of Test cricket’s leading wicket-takers during the Mackay Test. He now has 445 wickets, having surpassed Proteas great Dale Steyn’s tally of 439 earlier in the series.
The left-arm quick is already the most successful left-arm fast bowler in Test history.

Starc will have an opportunity to strengthen his position when Australia tour South Africa for three Tests in October.
Bumrah’s latest stay at No 1 lasted two months. The India paceman has spent a combined 697 days at the top, the most by an Indian bowler.
