NZ vs IND: Huge Blow For India As Injured Left Handed Batter Set To Miss 2nd T20I
Ishan Kishan will miss the second T20I against New Zealand in Christchurch due to his low grade right adductor strain. The BCCI has confirmed the news on the 23rd of October, 2026 and the match will be held on the 24th of October, 2026.
It seems like injury woes are chasing the Indian men’s cricket team wherever they head to as again a new injury update has arrived from the dressing room of the men in blue in the form of its explosive left handed batter Ishan Kishan. This is a huge blow for India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Kishan will miss the second T20I match against New Zealand in Christchurch as he suffered a low grade right adductor strain. They have confirmed the news today and the match will be held tomorrow.
“Ishan Kishan has a niggle in his groin. I know there was speculation about the change in the batting order but it wasn’t a change as such. It was because of the groin strain to Kishan. I think he is unlikely for one game. If Ishan can’t play – unless he recovers completely, the medical team will tell us – then obviously Vaibhav comes into the calculations as a batter. He is definitely one of the strongest persons who can play,” India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said at a press conference on Thursday night.

Ishan Kishan caught this injury of a right adductor strain which affects the inner thigh or groin muscles while playing in the first T20I of the five match series against New Zealand in Christchurch yesterday. His comeback is not confirmed now as his recovery timeline has not been yet stated by the BCCI.
When Kishan was sent in at number 5 instead of his ideal number 3 spot in the first match, several cricket fans and former cricketers raised their eyebrows, after they saw Tilak Varma coming in at number 3. After Kishan came out to bat he could not even perform well as he just scored 1 run off 3 balls and got dismissed by Mitchell Santner.
Will doors open for Sooryavanshi?
Ishan Kishan’s injury might turn out to be a jackpot for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as the teenager has been waiting for his turn in the squad for a long time and has also got the support of fans, analysts and former cricketers. Sooryavanshi was a part of the Indian team which won the gold medal in Japan and is already known for his aggressive batting in the IPL and domestic cricket. The only other batter in the squad is all rounder Shivam Dube but he is not a like-for-like replacement.
