Samoa woman’s cricket departing for Malaysia

Samoa’s women’s cricket team has begun travelling to Malaysia for a T20 tri-series aimed at giving emerging players valuable international experience ahead of two World Cup campaigns next year.
Some players left Samoa on Saturday to join the rest of the team in New Zealand, with the squad scheduled to fly to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday morning.
Samoa Cricket Association Operations Manager Leiataua Andrew Chadwick said the series was designed to provide international exposure and preparation for emerging women players from the three participating countries.

The tri-series will involve Malaysia, Samoa and Indonesia and will be held in Malaysia from 1 to 11 October.
The series will have a strong Under-19 development focus, while each participating country can include a limited number of senior players to enhance the competitive standard and provide younger players with valuable experience.
Samoa will travel with 12 players and two officials , a coach and team manager.

“The main focus is the preparation of our Under 19 Women’s team for the World Cup next year in Bangladesh and Nepal, as well as for our Senior Womens team world cup qualification next year,” he said.
The Under-19 players will compete at a World Cup for the second consecutive time.
