Hyderabad:Left-arm spinner M. Varun Tej took six wickets to be the standout performer of the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s Under-23 Men’s Emerging Players multi-day tournament on Saturday.
The opening innings produced a strong bowling-dominated contest, with Team ‘B’ being dismissed for 119 in 39.1 overs and Team ‘A’ replying with 110 in 29 overs thanks to Varun Tej’s 6/13 from eight overs that proved the defining spell of the match. Vivek Singh and Md Aadish Salmani had earlier shared six wickets for Team ‘B’.
With Team ‘B’ reaching 52/2 in 17 overs in their second innings, the match remained finely balanced, with the contest shaped primarily by disciplined bowling rather than high-scoring batting.
The ‘C’ Division was dominated by an outstanding
The ‘C’ Division was dominated by an outstanding century from Gimkala Yuvan (140), who powered Saint Sai to the day’s biggest total of 308/6, while Rithin Hari Sai (5/21) complemented the batting dominance with a five-wicket haul. Saint Sai registered the most commanding victory, defeating Anu CC by 135 runs.
Successful chases were also a prominent feature. Mahaveer, Sacred Heart, MP Sporting and New Stars all pursued their targets successfully, with Sacred Heart completing the most emphatic chase by reaching 75/1 in just 7.3 overs. Adams XI held their nerve in a competitive encounter to defend 227 against Manikumar.
