Historically, the story of American cricket was one of importing talent—relying on expatriates, aging international stars, and diaspora communities to keep the sport breathing. But following the USA’s breakout performances at the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups, a fundamental shift occurred in global cricket. American players were no longer viewed as novelty acts; they had become highly sought-after assets in the cutthroat world of global franchise leagues.
This is the exact same process both of us saw evolve in world football in the 1990s and 2000s as American footballers once seen as a novelties or worse yet curiosities to be mocked were integrated into the greater global soccer community.
In the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), a tournament that had long drawn the best white-ball players in the world, and has been covered extensively on these pages this summer, American cricketers began commanding prominent overseas slots.

But perhaps the true indicator of America’s rising stock was seen across the Atlantic. When the highly anticipated European T20 Premier League (ETPL) finally launched its inaugural season in August 2026, American players were drafted en masse- and without the novelty of “being American”.
The new European franchises recognized that the US national team possessed exactly the kind of battle-tested, adaptable talent needed to launch a new league.

Shadley van Schalkwyk was benched as the St. Lucia Kings. Matthew Tromp, playing for Trinbago Knight Riders, would have another frustrating night at the office. Tromp would get 15 from 26 deliveries as the Kings defeated the Knight Riders by 36 runs.
August 27th
Harmeet Singh was not in the starting 11 for Dublin Guardians as they kicked off their campaign against Belfast Wolves. Saurabh Netravalkar would not bat for Belfast, but bowl 4 overs going 1-24 with 13 dot deliveries. Sanjay Krishnamurthi would depart rather quickly for Dublin Guardians, 13 off 8 deliveries, as the Belfast Wolves defeated Dublin Guardians by 52 runs.
Glasgow Cosmic would bat first against the Edinburgh Castle Rockers, Ali Khan going for a duck off 2 deliveries. With the ball, Ali Khan would bowl 2 overs going 0-29 with only 4 dot ball. For Edinburgh, Andries Gous’s 40 not out from 28 balls (6-4s and 1-6) would help the Castle Rockers make easy work of chasing 116. Rushil Ugarkar would watch from the bench for Edinburgh as they won by 7 wickets with 51 balls remaining.

Rushil Ugarkar & Andries Gous would watch rain win the day as Edinburgh Castle Rockers’s fixture with Amsterdam Flames was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Matthew Tromp would have a frustrating night on the field. He would miss making a catch on the rope, conceding a six in the process before dropping a sure catch of Zachary Carter. Tromp’s catch would end the innings of Shian Brathwaite. He would not bat as the Trinbago Knight Riders made easy work of the Barbados Tridents, winning by 7 wickets with 31 balls remaining.
Ali Khan was spared the bat
Ali Khan was spared the bat as the Glasgow Cosmic went 183-5 in their 20 overs with the bat. With ball in hand, Ali Khan would get 4 overs, going 2-25 with 11 dot deliveries and ending the innings of Harry Tector (75). Again, Sanjay Krishnamurthi would give up his wicket cheaply after picking up 20 from 15 with 2 fours. Ali Khan would help the Glasgow Cosmic pick up their first win as they would defeat Dublin Guardians by 33 runs.
Shubham Ranjane would again miss out for Rotterdam Dockers as they dodged the rain in playing Saurabh Netravalkar and Belfast Wolves. Netravalkar wouldn’t bat as Belfast set 157 to win, before rain would cause the chasing total to fall to 121 in 14 overs. Ultimately Netravalkar got to watch as the game would wash out before 5 overs were bowled in the chase, the game deemed a no result.
Matthew Tromp would become the 3rd wicket in a triple wicket maiden for Vitel Lawes, departing for a duck on 4 deliveries. Shayan Jahangir would watch from the stands as the Jamaica Kingsmen would defeat the Trinbago Knight Riders by 7 runs
